Step-by-Step Installation
Power Down & Disconnect
Turn off the vehicle. Open the frunk and disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. For extra safety, also disconnect the high-voltage battery service connector under the rear seat. Wait at least 5 minutes for the system to fully discharge.
Remove the Airbag Module
Use a small flathead screwdriver to release the two airbag retaining springs through the access holes behind the steering wheel. Carefully pull the airbag forward, disconnect the electrical connector, and set the airbag aside face-up.
Loosen the Center Bolt
Using a suitable socket (typically 10mm or 12mm), loosen the center steering wheel bolt. Keep the bolt on the steering column to prevent the wheel from suddenly releasing.
Remove the Factory Wheel
Gently wiggle the wheel side-to-side while pulling it toward you. Once it breaks free, remove the center bolt completely and set the factory wheel aside.
Transfer Trim & Controls
Carefully unclip the plastic trim, scroll wheels, and button modules from the original wheel. Transfer them onto the new Yoke steering wheel, ensuring all clips and screws are properly seated.
Mount the New Yoke
Align the new Yoke steering wheel onto the steering column spline. Thread the center bolt and torque it to factory specification (typically 40–50 Nm, but verify for your model).
Reconnect the Airbag
Plug the airbag connector back in, align the airbag into the new wheel, and press firmly until both retaining springs click into place.
Restore Power & Test
Reconnect the 12V battery and the high-voltage connector. Power on the vehicle and verify that the scroll wheels, horn, airbag warning light, and Autopilot functions all work correctly.
Pro Installation Tips
- Always handle the airbag module face-up to prevent damage to the deployment surface.
- Use a torque wrench to ensure the center bolt is tightened to the correct specification.
- If your vehicle has heated steering, verify the heating connector is properly transferred.
- Take photos of the original wheel before disassembly to use as a reference for cable routing.
- Work in a well-lit area with the vehicle parked on a level surface.
